Sadashivgad residents are up in arms over the severe pollution of Kakadtale Lake, which has effectively become a garbage dump. Ashoka Rane, a member of the local Gram Panchayat, has highlighted the alarming absence of public toilets and the failure of authorities to address the escalating pollution. Despite numerous complaints, no action has been taken, leading Rane to warn of intensified protests if the lake is not restored soon.
Social worker Gajendra Nayka has underscored the historical significance of the lake, dating back to the time of kings, now marred by the indiscriminate dumping of waste by panchayat officials. The lake’s proximity to a school and an Anganwadi raises serious health concerns, as waste from local markets is also discarded there.
The pollution has also impacted the Karam area, affecting the health of villagers in Konkanwada, Mestawada, and Rajekanabagh. Villagers, including Ramdasa Rane and Govinda Rane, have voiced their grievances in a press conference, demanding immediate intervention and cleanup of the lake.
